Experience Ralphy's Retreat

A Sanctuary to Snout About!

About

Our Roots

Founded in 2003, when we took in our first rescued horse, Ralphy's Retreat is a registered not for profit animal sanctuary in beautiful Norfolk County, Ontario.

Our mission is to provide a safe haven for abandoned, neglected, and abused pot-bellied pigs, as well as those piggies that can no longer stay with their families. Our sanctuary is also home to horses, donkeys, cats, and dogs,

We work hard to increase public awareness of the treatment of animals, and provide humane education programs to children and adult groups. We are also proud to offer human-animal experiences to individuals, families, and community groups.

Be an Angel

for a Ralphy's Retreat Resident

Did you know that we rely solely on donations and fundraising to rescue and care for our piggy family at Ralphy's Retreat?

When you sponsor one of Ralphy's Retreat family members, it means they will continue to be safe and warm and have a true friend to look out for them all year round.

Could that friend be you?

Please make a piggy wish come true and sponsor today!

Covid-19 Update March 2021

Ralphy's Retreat remains closed to non-essential visitors.

While studies show the risks to pigs are low, they can’t say they are zero. Our best course of action is to keep infected people away from animals, so we don’t need to worry about human-to-animal transmission, and any subsequent animal health or animal-to-human transmission issues. While the odds of someone infecting a pig are very low, it’s best to avoid exposing pigs to infected people whenever possible. We also need to take all precautions to protect our human staff and volunteers.  In short, we feel it is better to be safe than sorry.

We hope to open for small, private tours this summer and will keep you posted.

Activities

Sanctuary

We are committed to providing long-term sanctuary to pot-bellied pigs who have been abandoned, abused or neglected.  We also work with families who can no longer care for their beloved pet pig, offering long-term stays and rehoming services.  Where possible we provide support and advice to keep piggies in their homes. We typically have about 100 pigs in our care at any given time, including those in foster homes.

Our sanctuary extends to humans too through workshops and animal interaction programs.

Education

With our organization’s mission always in mind, we strive to find new strategies for dealing with this challenge. Education is something that we take very seriously, and our team is working each and every day to make a positive impact. Contact us to learn more about our sanctuary tours and off-site visits.
